LAWRENCEBURG, Kentucky -- Artists Matthew and Karine Maynard of
Maynard Studios
have been featured in, and on the cover, of “Ironwork Today, Vol. 3,”
a new international hardcover book about contemporary
artist-blacksmiths.
The book is a prized reference guide and source of inspiration for
homeowners, designers, artists and blacksmiths as a fascinating
snapshot of current trends in a dynamic, growing field.

Jeffrey B. Snyder has been writing and editing books on the arts for
nearly 20 years.
Published in December 2011 by Schiffer Publishing of Atglen, Penn.,
“Ironwork Today, Vol.3” features an array of work created by 82 of
today's artist-blacksmiths world wide.
Their creations, coupled with artist interviews, comprise a
fascinating and compelling book of more than 450 vivid color photos
that provide a sweeping overview of the amazing range of modern
ironwork.

As a husband and wife team specializing in architectural iron and
applied design, the Maynards create intriguing art works which are
certain to command historical significance. They create each component by hand.
"Ironwork Today, Vol. 3" features five of the Maynard’s permanent
installations in private homes, from the Kentucky bluegrass and
beyond:
• an Italianate railing installed in a private residence in Lexington,
Ky., complete with basket weave patterns and hand-hammered acanthus
leaves;
• a “treehouse" railing in Louisville, Ky., with hand-forged steel and
cedar hand grip;
• two masterfully executed railings installed in Nashville, Tenn.,
done in mild steel and bronze with inlaid marble accents and burled
maple components with details illuminated with polychromatic
highlights and Gilder's paste.

Matthew Maynard was recently bestowed with one of the highest honors
from the Kentucky Arts Council, as a 2011 recipient of its “Al Smith
Fellowship” (ASF) and his work was recently featured at a state celebration
of the awards at the ASF Celebration in Frankfort, Ky.

and exhibits throughout Kentucky, including the Kentucky Museum of Art
and Craft of Louisville, Completely Kentucky of Frankfort, the
