ABOUT

Located in the heart of Lexington's Downtown Courthouse Entertainment District, Henry Clay's Public House is so named for Henry Clay, a lawyer, politician, and skilled orator who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. He served three different terms as Speaker of the House and was also Secretary of State from 1825-1829.

Henry Clay erected this building in August of 1805, in what was known then as Jordan's Row. He owned and occupied it for several years thereafter. He is said to have chosen this spot because he knew the courthouse would be built directly across the street.
